Ayuervedic herbs for Dysentery and Diarrhea
Arab.----Akulla-balasan; Habel-balsana. Rom. & Hind.----Rogan-i-balsan Eng.----Balm of Giliad; Balm of Mecca-Ind.----Donhula Balashana (oleo-resin).
Habitat.----Arabia. The gum or balsam is obtained in Indian bazaars.
Parts Used The balsam or oleo-resin, fruit and
wood.
Action The fruit is carminative, expectorant and
stimulant. The balsam is astringent and demulcent.
Uses----Decoction of wood and fruits (1 in 20) is used in doses of half to one ounce. The fruit is given in combination with gum acacia, in chronic coughs, dysentery and diarrhea. A paste of it is locally applied to indolent ulcers, recent cuts and bleeding wounds. The balsam is given in profuse rr "S discharges from genito-urinary
