It root used an alterative tonic
is a large woody climber, found in Southern and Central India, and Ceylon. The part used viz., the earth sugar root of the Tamils has been known in Southern India for centuries. The root slightly resembles liquorice root in appearance and taste, It is said to be used as an alterative, tonic and stimulant. From an analysis of the drug made by Hooper it was found to
contain ordinary plant constituents and a quantity of sugar.
