other malvaceous species it especially the fruit,
abounds in mucilaginous principles. It is prescribed in pulmonary affections as well as those of the urinary tract. The seeds are employed internally in decoction, simple or compound as a demulcent. It is generally used as a substitute for Marsh mallow. A decoction made of equal parts of common mallow, marsh mallow, seeds of common cucumber seeds of water melon, and Sonfa (Indian sweet fennel seeds), is used in urinary complaints and gonorrhoea. Dose is « to 1 ounce. The leaves are made into a poultice as an emollient exter-nal application. Mammea Asiatica----See Barringtonia Speciosa.
